This is a monochromatic impressionist approach to nude portraiture, one of the first of a series of self motivated works focused on the human form and its relation to light and structure. Taking inspiration from Van Gogh's textured impressionist style but merging it with a monochromatic graphic approach to nude photography.
Female Nude Torso (1 of 4)
Media: Acrylic on wooden board. Size: 47.5cm x 40.0cm. Date: 21/05/21
This and the previous pieces were painted on recycled canvases due to low accessibility of supplies during the pandemic. However this was quite serendipitous as I adore the texture it gave to my work. Out of the four this is my favourite piece as it shows the transition from impressionism to realism as well as being a physically larger scale piece which makes it more impactful.

Here I started moving onto realism inspired by photographers Lucien Clergue and Daido Moriyama. Portraying only the torso in appreciation for the human form and structure, seeing the body as a piece of art and not just as somebody's skin, mostly working with the female form and how it communicates with light.

Material: Acrylic on canvas. Size: 47.6cm x 40.5cm. Date: 18/11/21
Although fascinated with realism and how much I enjoyed the process of creating these last two works I still prefer the stylised impressionist paintings over these. The impressionist works are more aesthetically pleasing to me and in my opinion more artistically expressive.

This clay figure was created in response to the project "serendipity" being the development of a smaller clay figure I accidentally fell off my desk, creating a beautifully abstract figure. This lead to the creation of this clay figure which I deliberately dropped twice from the top and the bottom before placing on a stand. This serendipitous event created this unique abstract figure with beautiful curvaceous features juxtaposed by sharp diagonal lines.

This is a soy wax water made sculpture in response to the projects title "serendipity". As a means to use serendipity as an artistic process I created sculptures using uncontrollable variables repeating a process until I liked the outcome. Here, I created an almost bio-like garden out of soy wax. I created this form by pouring melted wax into cold water to shock the liquid into solid fluid forms. I then proceeded to light the structure through a circle mask to produce these graphic images.

This is the outcome for my FMP in response to the title "form and structure", exploring how sculpture interacts with people through fashion taking inspiration from Iris Van Herpan's kinetic line as well as Truro's light parade, the garment was made from ivory cotton I treated with pva and heat set and cut into 3d panels before being interwoven together to create a halter top fishtail dress frame.

A clay nude torso moulded around a glass bottle acting as a vase for dried roses. A piece in response to "time and traces". The piece was heat shocked in order to create cracks, conveying the traces of time over the transient human vessel amplified by the already dead roses.

Green acrylic pour in response to the project title "serendipity". Throughout this project I aimed to create pieces actively using serendipitous events as a medium. I decided to create acrylic pours blindly selecting my 3 acrylic colours with extender and poring them onto a board, so the uncontrolled variable of its unknown end appearance acted as a serendipitous event.

Still Life - Skull
Media: Digital painting in Affinity Photo. Size: A3 (300ppi). Date: 11/11/21
With the aim of exploring digital art as a way to increase my experience of media I created illustrations inspired by Van Gogh's still lives using still life set ups found on the internet. This is one of my favourite still lives presented as a work sheet.

In 2020 I received a commission for a book cover titled "shadows at dawn" in which these creatures called shrooms exist. Above is a spread of some of the shroom characters from the novel, originally conceptualised with pencil and paper and then developed in Affinity Photo using a tablet and digital pen.
